Sontay,
the market leading manufacturer and distributor of field control
devices, has an agreement with C-Probe Systems to manufacture
and test its electronic management systems that have played
a critical part in the renovation of the Mayorhold multi-storey
car park, Northampton. The development was awarded ‘Project
of the Year’ status in 2006 by the International Concrete
Repair Institute (ICRI).
The
parking structure supplies spaces for 1,100 cars on five levels
and was initially built in 1973. Over a period of years the
condition of the car park declined both in terms of appearance
and the extent of its reinforcement corrosion. Spalling of
concrete was evident to both the deck and soffit downstand
beams, including incipient anode effects from previous emergency
repairs.
Corrosion
management specialists C-Probe supported the repair and installation
contractor, Makers Parking, with the longevity design and specialist
product supply for the refurbishment of the car park. The measurement
solution with on-line monitoring has allowed C-Probe to identify
points of corrosion risk and measure the performance of protection
systems to optimise the life of the structural steel. This
has assured the appearance and the safety of the car park both
immediately and in the future.

candidate to one with a significantly extended life.”
