Joanne Stopps - Sontay Internal Sales Manager

Our August Q&A is with Jo, Internal Sales Manager at Sontay. We found out the best and worst parts of her job, her advice for someone starting out in the industry, and more...

How long have you worked at Sontay?

Since August 2010

What is your job role?

Working alongside our Middle East Sales Manager, overseeing all operations within the internal sales team, ensuring all orders are despatched on time and resolving any customer complaints. I also train new staff within internal sales.

What are the best/worst things about your job?

Best: Communicating with people all around the world and assisting customers where your action and level of service can turn things around and change their day.

Worst : When you are reliant on a third party who lets you down so you cannot deliver what was promised to the customer and you do not have the solution straight away; it can sometimes leave you feeling helpless.

What attracted you to working in the building controls industry?

I have always worked within the construction / building industry ie; maintenance departments, Customer Service Advisor and as a Customer Service Manager. This was a new challenge within the same field where some of my previous experience would help me grow into a new industry.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?

Most of my knowledge has been gained from listening to our customers and answering their questions in conjunction with our Technical department. So I would say listen and learn from others who have been in this industry for a long time.

Who has been the biggest influence in your career?

Whilst growing up my father ran his own building company; so I was always around the construction industry and watching him grow his own company from nothing influenced me to always try and succeed.

What five guests would you invite to a dinner party? Dead or alive…

Valentino Rossi, Stacey Dooley, Quentin Tarantino, Chris Hughton & Steve Tyler

What is your favourite book?

Emily Bronte - Wuthering Heights

Who is your favourite musician?

ACDC or anything rock!

What is your perfect holiday? Sun or Snow?

A sunny city break; explore in the morning and relax by the pool in the afternoon
