Sontay’s Smart Building Management System (BMS) has provided safe, sustainable, and state-of-the-art solutions for the construction of a new integrated mental health and learning disability medium-secure centre of excellence at Northgate Hospital.

The project was part of a £72.6m CEDAR (Care, Environment, Development and Re-provision) upgrade for the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) with Sir Robert McAlpine as the design and construction delivery partner. To ensure maximum comfort and energy savings, long-term partner of Sontay, Astral Control Services chose Sontay to install its BMS which controls heating, cooling, and ventilation systems with precision.

The project ran smoothly over the course of 18 months with minimal challenges, except for the need for an innovative solution for measuring the MCWS Tank. Sontay’s Ultrasonic Sensors provided an accurate measurement of water temperature, circumventing any potential inaccurate readings caused by density and transparency of the water.

Sontay’s products are designed to adapt to the project’s needs, and the anti-ligature sensors provided by Sontay allowed for low profile monitoring, ensuring the safety of patients and staff at all times. Additionally, Sontay’s products promote sustainability, enabling long-term monitoring and accurate measuring which saves energy in the long-run, making it a cost-effective and sustainable method for buildings.

With Sontay’s smart products, the team behind Northgate Hospital has delivered an outstanding facility that supports healthcare excellence and the benefits and welfare of staff and patients. The new medium-secure centre at Northgate will facilitate the best in mental health provision for patients in the region.
